News from the Z-Wave Summit
I attended the Z-Wave Summit in Amsterdam last week. It was a good event bringing together lots of different companies involved in the IoT space and specifically interested in the Z-Wave radio protocols and information on Silicon Labs new 700 Series Z-Wave chip. The event was split between Business and Technical tracks. The Business Track began with a workshop - attendees split into 4 teams and were given the task of developing a brand and offering for a given IoT related vertical market. Our 4 person team, with some assistance from BBC ‘Click' presenter and technology journalist Kate Russel, presented our thoughts on offerings for aged care in the home. The highlight of the new Z-Wave 700 series is its lower power capabilities, now able to run on small button cell batteries for up to 10 years. Radio technologies such as the Z-Wave continue to push the technology envelope to provide longer range, lower power consumption and better interoperability, enabling new IoT opportunities. One of Skelmir’s partners, Imont, participated in a lively “Cloud vs Cloudless” panel discussion. Skelmir’s CEE-J VM enables Imont’s Cloudless IoT Framework to run in embedded products on the edge, even in resource constrained devices.
A couple of other interesting presentations included: "Biophilia, the Next Big Thing in Wellness Technology” presented by Julie Jacobson, CE Pro. The background to everyone’s circadian rhythm, how modern day life conflicts with it and how IoT technology can be used to plug the gap between our lifestyles today and what we should be doing for general wellness; and “A Marketer’s Guide to Decoding Social Media Algorithms in 2019” presented by Ashley Daigneault, Caster Communications. Understanding the algorithms used by social media platforms such as LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, can help marketers to better leverage these platforms for maximum brand/company messaging and awareness.
