London, England - May 19, 2003 Metro Link Inc. is demonstrating Metro MediaWorks, an integrated solution using applications developed in-house combined with software components from several partners. Metro MediaWorks provides consumer electronics manufacturers with a comprehensive suite of applications for digital set-top boxes and Home Media Centers. Metro MediaWorks supporting Streaming Video, High Definition PVR, Multi-TV PVR, MP3, EPG, DVB-T, TV Centric browsers, Macromedia Flash, Virtual Machines for Java, Telephony and embedded UPnP will be demonstrated at the ATI Technologies Inc. booth (#E8) at Mediacast, May 20-22nd.
With Metro Link's Metro MediaWorks DTV solution (DVB-T and ATSC), customers can develop Digital Set-Top-Boxes, Digital TVs, and Home Media Centers based on ATI's XILLEON chip.
"ATI's highly integrated XILLEON chip is the ideal starting point for consumer electronics manufacturers building a variety of products, including those developing PVRs (Personal Video Recorders)," said Daniel Eiref, Director of DTV Marketing and Business Development, ATI Technologies Inc. "XILLEON is a worthy complement to Metro Link's integrated, robust media engine and Metro Link also provides custom hardware and software support for ATI's SET-TOP WONDER reference design."
Metro Link will be receiving live DVB-T programs on the XILLEON based HT-5060 digital set top box, from Proton Communications of Taiwan, simultaneously writing to disk for PVR, streaming to another Proton HT-5060 to demonstrate Multi-TV PVR over IP, while displaying stored videos and live broadcasts.
Metro Link will be demonstrating integrated software technology from several partners including a Macromedia Flash GUI layered on ANT Limited's Fresco browser. "ANT is delighted that Metro Link has harnessed ANT Fresco's integration of Flash Player 5 to create and view user interfaces that enhance its PVR and EPG product offerings," said Rhys Grossman, Senior VP, Business Development. "With increasing demand from service operators for Flash 5 capabilities, ANT and Metro Link can now provide them with the ability to deliver enriched revenue-generating content to their subscribers."
Other Partners in the ATI booth include Skelmir & Oregan Networks. Skelmir will be demonstrating the CEE-J Virtual Machine for hosting Java, MHP, OCAP and OSGi applications available for release in 3rd qtr 2003 as an integrated component of Metro MediaWorks. Shari Agatstein, CEO of Skelmir, "The Metro MediaWorks PVR functionality combined with the CEE-J VM on the Xilleon Set Top Box gives customers a proven, market-ready platform on which to deploy advanced and scalable video products." Upon release of the integrated solution, a variety of Java applications will become available including Java PVR, Java browser, gaming, chat and email.
Oregan Networks will be demonstrating applications and middleware solutions that leverage media handlers, and libraries provided by Metro Link's Metro MediaWorks that have enabled Oregan to provide HTML and Macromedia Flash user interfaces for Metro Link's DVB-T tuner control, DVB-SI data parsing, and Personal Video Recorder applications. Mark Perry, CEO of Oregan, noted "Our collaboration with Metro Link allowed us to implement our iTV middleware and embedded web-browser on the Xilleon platform within an exceptionally short time frame. Integrated with the MediaWorks libraries, Oregan's solution allows consumers to enjoy a seamless user experience as they navigate DVB or IP television, PVR and Internet browsing functions."
