September 6, 2001, Embedded Systems Conference, Boston, MA - Espial, creator of software that powers the world of smart Internet devices, and Skelmir LLC, a developer of virtual machines, libraries and compilation tools for the Java technology, today announced the completion of the first platform validation under the umbrella of the newly-established Espial Partner Network. This validated platform substantially shortens the development cycle for Java devices, improves the quality of the entire software stack, and brings customers closer to the "write once, run anywhere" promise of the Java technology.
"The Espial Partner Network clearly highlights the significance of Espial's long-term, global commitment to the vision of the Pervasive Internet and their depth of experience with Java device designs," said Shari L. Agatstein, President of Skelmir. "The platform validation process helped Skelmir realize new levels of reliability, performance and other enhancements with the Espial DeviceTop suite that will help bring embedded devices to market quicker. This partner program is a very valuable and unique tool in enabling today's smart devices and tomorrow's next generation technology."
The goal of the Espial Partner Network is to strengthen the partnerships Espial has built by providing performance validation that reduces risk and time-to-market, furthers implementation of industry standards and accelerates market adoption of Java technologies. By working with partners to integrate existing technologies, Espial has created the only program able to offer a finished solution to those interested in developing Java-based smart devices.
Anyone that has attempted a Java-based design knows that integrating the JVM and operating system with the application layer is no trivial task. The Espial platform validation suite simplifies the integration process by validating the integration of the system software and hardware to the same level that has been done for other, successful Java device designs. With platform validation, OEMs know every component in the stack is optimized for performance with the other elements.
"We are pleased to have Skelmir become full members
of the Espial Partner Network through the validation
of their platform,'' commented Jaison Dolvane, president
and CEO of Espial. "They have the expertise to
bring real innovation to the Java device market. This
is one more proof point that the Java device market
is continuing to build momentum."
Skelmir will provide demonstrations of their newly validated
platform at Booth #120 at the Embedded Systems Conference,
